Gippal and Paine are two characters from the hit Square-Enix video game Final Fantasy X-2. At first, it seems as if Gippal, an Al Bhed who leads the Machine Faction, and Paine, a warrioress with the sphere-hunting Gullwings, have little in common. However, their relationship, as well as their intertwined pasts with the New Yevonite Baralai and Mevyn Nooj, create the framework on which the game is built.
Despite their close friendship, the two are very different. Gippal is relaxed and funny, while Paine is much more serious and stern. Underneath their exteriors, however, are two people who both wish for the same things: peace, freedom, and friendship. Gippal is one of the few people who can get away with calling Paine "Dr. P", and Paine appears to be quietly tolerant of Gippal's antics. Also, they are both willing to risk everything for their friends -- including each other. In the end, the two are close, and worthy of each other's friendship.
